On Friday 3 June, The RTS hosted the writer Alvaro Enrigue in the Dedans of the East Court at The Queen’s Club to talk about his latest book Sudden Death (2013; English trans. 2016).
At the centre of the book is a fictional tennis match played between the painter Caravaggio and the Spanish poet Francisco de Quevedo around 1600 in Rome. A fantastical tour from Renaissance Europe to the recently discovered “New World”, a game of tennis reflects the changes taking place at the heart of European culture in the early 17c.
